Dusty is a sweet, lovely boy. He loves people and dogs. He loves to snuggle, go for walks, play with his doggy girlfriends, and to snuggle and get belly rubs from his human. Dusty is good with dogs and calm dog-friendly cats.  Dusty is just about perfect except for one thing:  He is deaf.  He’s special needs.

We believe Dusty was born perfectly normal but an untreated ear infection caused him to go deaf. Scars on his body showed at very minimum neglect, if not abuse. Dusty functions perfectly well in every other way.  He compensates for his deafness by watching his companion dogs and taking cues from them.

Dusty is obedience trained to sign language to sit, down, stay, come, and heal walk.  He is crate and house trained.

Because of his deafness, Dusty has been waiting a long time for his forever home.  His deafness does not handicap him. He does not realize he is any different from any other dog. He enjoys the companionship of a calm female. Although, he can be adopted as a single dog to the right family, if someone wanted a companion for him he would like to be adopted with his girlfriend Blondie.  If he is to be adopted to another companion, please note that it is Silver Rescue’s policy to adopt to opposite sex companions.

Dusty will be adopted to an inside forever home only.  A 6 ft fence is required.  Must own home. No rentals, please. References, vet check and a home visit are required.  Dusty's adoption fee of $250 will be used to help other abandoned pets like him. However, if Dusty is to be adopted along with his girlfriend Blondie, each dog’s adoption fee will be reduced to $175 each.  The adoption fees are used to help other abandoned and abused dogs.

Please read Dusty’s Story:
When we came across Dusty he had attached himself to a young man who was kind to him but did not want him. Everywhere the young man went Dusty followed, prancing beside him looking at him adoringly hoping and wishing for all his might, that this finally, was his forever human.  Alas! He was not.  Poor boy!  He was so lost and so lonely in his quiet world. He was very lucky, indeed, that he did not attach himself to an evil human in his desperation who would abuse him further.

We are sure Dusty was dumped because of his deafness. Try as he might to please his people he could not. Unruly in his puppyhood and not being able to understand verbal commands, he was difficult to handle. Taking the easy way out, they dumped him.  How did he roam the streets alone and hungry? The young man I found him with could not understand or speak English well, so he could not tell me.

When we took him in we sent Dusty to doggy boot camp to learn his obedience commands with hand signals and to learn how to live in a home.   He did well and he has been ready for his own family for quite a while now.  What stands in his way?  His deafness.  He will make a sweet companion. All he needs is someone willing to learn the hand signals, take him for walks, snuggle with him and give him belly rubs.  Will you be that special someone that is willing to be Dusty’s world?
